Toys That Teach: Watch Gail and Cappa’s Ghilly play with the new Squishy FaceFlirt Pole–now available in NH exclusively through Cappa’s Kennel.

Anyone who’s trained with Gail (or been the beneficiary of her sage advice), knows that she believes every interaction with your dog is a teachable moment. In an effort to find new and interesting “toys” to enhance play, Gail searches the marketplace for the best of the best. Last month she discovered Squishy Face Studios and their new “flirt pole,” a toy so sturdy it can challenge a pit bull without breaking! To learn more about the company’s mission or to purchase Squishy Face products from Cappa’s Kennel, click here for a list of products and pricing.

Did you know…?

Does your dog “flip you the tail” and then refuse to “out” during a game of tug or “drop” a ball after retrieving it? Below are some suggestions from Gail to stop a game from becoming a battle of wills:

  • Humans always initiate and end the game
  • Rules should be clear to all participants before play begins
  • If the game requires an “out” or a “drop it,” the behavior should be learned before playing
  • If your dog is slow to follow the rules, and repeated commands are necessary to continue the game, stop playing.  Say “game over,” and then put the toy(s) away
  • Use play as a way to sharpen obedience and extend your  dog’s attention span
  • Counterbalance your dog’s exuberance and excitement  with a request for self-control
  • Interactive games should strengthen the bond between dog and companion, not frustrate it

Cappa’s Corner:

Cappa’s Kennel has 3 big, beautiful female puppies available and ready to go their new homes on February 28th. Contact Gail for details.
